This creative workshop introduces animal and plant-based fibres as versatile art materials. Participants will learn the fundamentals of wet felting, experiment with colour and texture, and use a range of fibres and textiles to design and complete a small artwork suitable for framing. No prior experience is needed
Identify a range of animal and plant-based fibres (e.g. merino, alpaca, silk, viscose, nettle, bamboo, soy, paper) and describe their characteristics for art-making.
Select and combine suitable fibres and textiles for use in mixed-media, 2D and 3D felted artworks.
Apply the core principles of the wet felting process, including fibre layout, wetting, agitation, fulling and shrinkage.
Demonstrate fundamental felt-making techniques to create a small art piece suitable for framing.
Experiment with texture, colour and embellishment materials to enhance visual and tactile interest in their work.
Assess how shrinkage affects the final dimensions and design of a felted artwork, and make adjustments where needed.
