Description
This work is a study of contrast and relief, inspired by the topography of the Antarctic. In an environment dominated by blinding white, the smallest patterns—sea ice formations, rocks and mineral deposits become relief to the eye. In this pristine whiteness the ‘grubby’ markers of human habitation take on a monumental significance. I used white bergshaf wool and banana fibre to interpret the icy background with flax fibre, silk and merino prefelts to emphasize these interruptions, exploring how a minimalist environment amplifies the power of colour and form.
